Open Letter to President Obama

Published by doodler at 12:53 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

President Obama,

I am a citizen of your fine nation.  I am even someone who is trying to give you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to your adminstration while you shake off the kinks, and while you find your groove in governing us.  I do ask you to take a second look at this bail out program that is costing people like myself money we simply do not have.  You are paying companies millions, and in some cases billions, of dollars.  I understand that if these companies fold it will result in yet more lost jobs, and I do support trying to keep people in the work force.  It might have escaped your notice, but teachers are now being laid off and having their salaries frozen.  Your OWN people are staving to death.

I know we are just small time.  We are not multi-million dollar corporations.  We are the invisible people that make this country work at all.  We are the carpenters, the construction workers, the laborers, the factory workers, the taxi drivers.  We are beginning to starve to death while living in what is supposed to be one of the best countries in the world.  Our children don’t have coats or shoes.  Parents are going without eating to make sure there is enough to pay for the food that continues to rise in price while we do not get pay raises.  We are the very same people who voted for you, and those people in Washington who are throwing our money away by giving it to companies that are paying out million dollar bonuses to people who do not even work for them any more.

Turn your attention to us.  Do something to help US be able to keep our homes, feed ourselves, cloth our children.  I have a proposal that might seem crazy, but I do think it might work:

Tax penalties for companies that outsource jobs that we need here in the States.  If they want to give our jobs to others make them pay higher taxes.

Tax breaks for companies that generate new jobs for Americans.

Legal consequences for companies that mismanage bail out funds.  I am talking mandatory jail time here, not just slaps on the wrist.

Invest in our schools.

Raise the earning limits in place that will allow more people to obtain the assistance they need in the way of wic, medicade, and food stamps.

Put time limits on the amount of time a single person can receive food stamp and wellfare benefits when they are able bodied.  Single defined as non-married with no dependents.

Cap gas prices to prevent them from reaching the levels they were this time last year.

Cut each citizen eightteen years of age or older a share of the bail out funds.  If you put money into the common  citizen’s hands they are going to: catch up on bills, put some in savings, and if there is anything left they will next actually do some spending which will put a shot in to the arm of the retail world that so desperately needs it.

Deny any government aid to illegal immigrants.  If they are here illegally they are not entitled to any form of food stamp, education, or other means of support from a government they pay no taxes to.  It is a hard line, but Mr. President right now we need to take care of our own.

We the American people of all races and religions need to know that we our your priority.  We need to know that we are no longer the invisible majority.  We need to know that you see and understand our plight.  Your children have new shoes and clothes.  My child has holes in her shoes because I cannot afford new ones right now.  I hope that next payday I will be able to manage that.  Your family has a nice home.  I continue to pray that the rent will be met, and that the utilities will stay on.

We need your help.  Help us.  We are looking to you for strong, decisive, and firm leadership.  Step up and lead.

Signed,

Any US citizen within the middle class and lower
